In 2003 Stasia and I decided to watch just one episode of American Idol to confirm that it was in fact such a sorry waste of time as everybody was claiming. Then we watched every single episode for 8 seasons, followed by X Factor US Season 1. Our final conclusion is: yes, it is in fact a complete waste of time just as everybody had claimed. So we will never ever watch either of those shows ever again.
Except maybe the opening episode of X Factor Ukraine, Season 3.
So check this out: this 29 year old cashier from Odessa shows up for an audition for Season 2. She starts singing. Judges stop her in the middle of the song, because they think that she is lip-syncing. They ask her to sing the song a cappella. She does. The audience goes wild and she gets in. Then she goes through a few rounds, fails and gets kicked off the show. Next thing you know, people start watching the video of her audition online, it gets 400,000 views and she is declared the Winner of X Factor Online. So now she is automatically going to Season 3. At least that's how I understood it. I did not just spend 45 minutes researching this subject. 😉
